Social Media and the Psyche – An Introduction

Social Media is changing human consciousness.  Our lives are transforming into the psychological realities of social media.  Many people value this social communication, pointing to its ability to connect and create new relationships.  Others state that social images34media is causing a loss of genuine communication and intimacy.  However, whatever way you look at it, social media is here to stay.  Holistic integrated psychotherapy helps people evolve within the social media realities of the 21st century.

In my writings I will highlight both sides of the argument.  The aim is not to draw conclusions of whether social media is positive or negative.  Instead, it is to shine a light on all the complexities and subtleties of this new 2222psychic reality.  To address the challenges, and creative evolutions, social media consciousness faces.  Holistic integrated psychotherapy does not focus on what is ‘good or bad’, rather it emphasizes understanding, and being authentic to what reality is.

While most social media analytical discourse questions the quality of inter-personal interaction, the focus of these writings will be on the intra-personal effects on the psyche.  To understand the new inner psychic connections which social media is creating.  What are the new sensations, feelings, emotions, and thoughts?  Is there more or less sensation index2222in our bodies?  What is the quality and quantity of the buzz in our brains and groins?  Are common emotions fear/excitement, shame/desire, anger/grief, or bliss/despair?  Furthermore, how do we heal and grow within this new psychic reality?  What is the evolutionary potential right now, and in the decades to come?  Unfortunately, too much discourse is spent lamenting the decline of the old.  Social media is here to stay, so let’s progressively understand what is happening, and where it is going.  Any new manifestation provides an opportunity for something new to be seen, understood, and healed.  Let’s do it!

Social media brings a lot of evolutionary potential.  It is increasing and intensifying at an incredibly fast rate.  Things always intensify before they change.  Therefore, social media consciousness could potentially be the catalyst for incredibly complex psychic evolution.  However, as landscapes change confrontation also often ensues.  New social internet interactions are currently in confrontation with older in-person ways of relating.  Optimally, this could be creating a complexifying evolutionary mix.  Yet, in confrontational times, god3things can also fragment, dissociate, repress, die, and destruct.  Therefore, let’s deepen our consciousness into social media reality.  Let’s psychologically therapeutically reflectively understand, and take action.  Let’s be co-creators within these transformational times!

Holistic integrated psychotherapy provides a space for healing and growth within the realities of the 21st century.  Providing an alchemical container forgod2 the joys and sorrows of social media, in the aims of creating a new philosopher’s stone.

Future themes will address: social media and narcissism, social media and existential reality, social media and spirituality  ………..
